When purchasing a car it is important to make sure you are buying a safe vehicle for yourself and your family. This is especially the case when buying second-hand cars from a dealer, car salesman or a private seller. All cars should come with a safety certificate (this is the seller’s responsibility to make sure the car is safe to sell and roadworthy) but you should also have a pre-purchase inspection performed on the car you are looking to buy.
Safety certificates are mandatory in QLD when selling a car. If the seller hasn’t provided a safety certificate with the car then they are selling it to you illegally. If this is the case the vehicle is also likely unsafe and should not be purchased. Remember, you can always walk away! Sometimes what looks like a great deal can often mean thousands of unforeseen costs later on, especially if you do not know how to check the vehicle yourself.
That being said safety certificates are not always what they seem. There are mechanics out there that will give out safety certificates for cars knowing that they are unsafe. If the certificate was not acquired by a reputable mechanic such as ourselves then the car could be dangerous to drive.
This is where pre-purchase inspections are very beneficial. When you have an inspection performed on the car you wish to purchase by a reputable, qualified mechanic you have a greater understanding of the car’s condition. This means that you can make an informed decision about the purchase of your chosen vehicle. If it is found to be unsafe you can walk away knowing that you made the right choice. Otherwise, if the vehicle does tick all the boxes you know that you have purchased a safe car!
At Auto Giant, we perform pre-purchase inspections on a range of makes and models including European cars such as BMW and Mercedes. Your chosen car will have a full safety inspection performed on it and you will receive a detailed report with advice on any major issues that might arise. We are also happy to answer any questions that you might have about the car or purchasing it so that you have peace of mind.
